McLean Oval Water Wise Garden

The creation of a water wise garden at McLean Oval was aimed at building a visually appealing garden that demonstrated water wise practices by using local plant species. This project was funded by the Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority in conjunction with Council and the Harden Murrumburrah Junior Rugby League Football Club.

During the construction of the garden a large amount of material was recycled including the dead pine trees which surrounded the oval, which were cut down and mulched and reused on the finished garden to retain moisture, reduce erosion and provide nutrients for the garden. The garden uses efficient water practices and is low maintenance, which will reduce future costs.

When the garden is fully mature it will become a habitat for local fauna and help endangered species, while demonstrating a low care, easy to maintain and water-wise garden solution for our community.

The refurbishment of the McLean oval perimeter was a community effort and shows the community support for a water wise garden and provides a welcoming area for local sporting groups.
