Planning & Development
The Environmental Services Department is responsible for planning and development services at Harden Shire Council. Planning helps to conserve, protect and enhance the natural and built environment of Harden Shire and to improve the quality of life for our community and future generations. Council has a primary responsibility of ensuring our sensitive environment is retained and, where possible, enhanced through the application of appropriate building and development controls for the benefit of residents and visitors.
It is Council's role to check that all development complies with the Harden Local Environmental Plan 2011, other relevant environmental planning instruments, legislation and the Building Code of Australia.

Responsibilities of the Environmental Services Department are:-
- Strategic Planning;
- Development Applications;
- 149 Planning Certificates;
- 149D Building Certificates;
- Drainage Diagrams;
- Plumbing and Drainage Permits, Inspections and Final Certificates;
- Septic Tank Approvals;
- Street Numbering and Rural Addressing;
- Building Inspections; and
- Liquid Trade Waste Inspections.

A Town Planner is available most days at Council's Offices to assist you with your planning enquiries. It is advisable to make an appointment so planning staff can prepare any information you may need and allocate the appropriate amount of time to assist you with your enquiry.
