Many hours of work by dedicated locals and Department of Community Services (DoCS) staff is on the way to paying off for the residents of Harden Shire. DoCS have worked with community representatives to provide alternative childcare arrangements for the residents of Harden Shire following the closure of the Murrumburrah Early Learning Centre. These childcare arrangements will now be available through Bunyip Preschool. This means that in conjunction with DoCS, Bunyip’s licence will be amended to allow for the care of children from 6 weeks until 6 years. The service will operate from 8.00am until 6.00pm weekdays and during the Christmas holiday period. Full care will be available as previously provided by the Murrumburrah Early Learning Centre. These alternative arrangements are a temporary measure whilst a longer term solution is found. Bunyip’s Management Committee have been extremely supportive in extending their services to assist the community. Those parents wishing to utilise child care must contact Bunyip Preschool as soon as possible to fill out the necessary paperwork to enrol your children. Copies of this paperwork are available from the Council Chambers, but all enquiries and return of the paperwork must be made to Bunyip Preschool, prior to your child attending the care. It is anticipated that the necessary licences and resources will be in place early next week (week commencing 26 November 2007) allowing the care to commence within days of the Early Learning Centre closing. Council will be distributing information as it comes to hand through the usual media outlets and Council’s website. Council will facilitate a community meeting to discuss the long term child care needs of our community in the coming weeks. This meeting will consider: what level of service is needed; where it can be located; will it be a community run facility; how the community can support the operations together with many other issues will be discussed.
