Mayors Message - 22nd October 07

Mayor Philip Hockney and Kruger Trust Director Mr Keith Sewell turning the first sod at the medical centre site

Mayor Philip Hockney and Kruger Trust Director Mr Keith Sewell 'turning the first sod' at the medical centre site

What a wonderful day we had on Saturday at the Kite festival.  Again success by working together.   The amount of work put in by Jan Ryan and her team certainly paid off. I feel that I should congratulate the whole committee of Jan Ryan, Helen Stevenson, Bronwyn Ryan, Robyn Carroll, Sharon Hawkins, Cathy Sanderson, Faye Valerius and Brian Dunn for their sterling efforts. Thankyou to you all. This has been an outstanding success for only the second year.

Council have agreed to spend $10,000 building a bike park for our young people.  The park will probably be built between the pool and the caravan park.  The initiative came from the kids and we have followed their request.

It seems as though council will join CENTROC, a group of 14 councils to the north and west of us.  This will allow us to save money on training of staff, bulk purchasing of all sorts of things, it will also allow us to better consult with other councils who have similar problems.  This will add to the efficiency already showing itself by the arrangement we have with Sutherland Shire.

If you wondered what was happening at the medical centre site on Wednesday we were “turning the first sod”, not that there is much sod left but it has the significance of saying yes we are on the move.

212 Signatures were delivered to council asking for us to release a report given to us by the “Harden Murrumburrah Tourism Action Group”   We are happy to do this and as from today anyone who would like a copy can pick one up from the chambers. I must point out that this is NOT a report produced by Council but by the residents and tourism operators who create the Tourism Action Group. Council do not necessarily agree with all or any part of the report.  The report will be on display for 28 days and then council will read submissions and then meet with the group to discuss a way ahead.

Just to remind you that the NSW government is offering a water tank rebate.  Information is available from council offices.

Council representatives spent Friday at the Camping and Caravan Show in Canberra, we had a stand together with Young and Boorowa and we each did a day at the show.  Our reps said it was well attended and we delivered lots of information about Harden Shire.
