Council Elects New Mayor
Harden Shire Council elected Councillor Philip Hockney as the new Mayor at its Council meeting today.
Councillor Hockney replaces Councillor Chris Manchester in this role. Councillor Manchester decided for a variety of reasons that he would not restand for the position of Mayor.
Councillor Hockney congratulated Councillor Manchester on his past efforts and his dedication to the Harden Shire over many years, not only as Mayor but also as a Councillor.
“My first and very important duty, is to thank Councillor Chris Manchester for all the time and effort he has contributed over the ten years as Mayor of Harden Shire. He deserves massive thanks from us all and I have to say that Chris has carried out his duties with a vigour that I hope I can follow. Chris knows everybody and everything that is Harden Shire. I will never be able to do that but I hope that after my term, I can be appreciated half as much as Councillor Manchester will be” stated Councillor Hockney.
Councillor Hockney “intends to try to change the way we run the Shire in that I want every Councillor to have a special job to do in some form or another.
My aim is to make certain that we consult residents as to what they want of council. I believe this to be very important but it is a two-way thing. We can only consult if we get good support at our public meetings”.
Councillor Manchester has agreed to continue to represent Council as Deputy Mayor commenting “I intend to fully support Councillor Hockney in his new and exciting role. I wish him well and am sure that he can continue to progress Council forward.”
